Senses Fail’s Buddy Nielsen has done his time.
The sole remaining founding member of the band, it’s testament to his continuing relevance that ‘Hell Is In Your Head’ isn’t an album that allows itself to rely on nostalgia to find an audience. Dark, brooding and brilliant, it’s an album of two halves. Five of the first six tracks take their titles from the five parts of TS Eliot’s ‘The Waste Land’, set in its world and to be viewed “more like a play”.
The second half – more based in the real world – is more present. Both, though, feel immediate and urgent. An album of vision and constant progression. ■ Dan Harrison
