Softcult – See You In The Dark EP

  • March 22, 2023
  • Kelsey McClure

Label: Easy Life Records
Released: 24th March 2023

With its title drawing inspiration from Nietzsche (“Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you”), Softcult’s ‘See You In The Dark’ is achingly intimate, twinkling like a star at sea.

Opening track ‘Drain’ laments on life on a dying planet; Mercedes Arn-Horn’s vocals float through the airways, offering warmth in an otherwise effortlessly cool EP. The gorgeous accompanying harmonies contrast content that is frequently lyrically dark; notably the funky and infectious instrumentals of ‘Dress’ over the more serious subject matter of consent.

In all things Softcult offer solace, affirming that you are not alone. Expertly mixing dreamy synths with grungy bass lines, they have perfected their own brand of wonderfully scuzzy shoegaze.
